These photo collections serve a number of purposes. To the naturalist/birder, whether avid or casual, they demonstrate the variety and density of bird life in the Morro Bay Estuary. They also serve to illustrate the differing habitats, seasons, and moods of the estuary. All of which can be experienced in Orchid Outriggers' guided group estuary and birding tours. For the photographer, they demonstrate what opportunities can be expected in the course of a photo paddle. They also give the photographer a realistic demonstration of the outrigger's stability and suitability as a camera platform. Is every shot as crisp and sharp as a camera and tripod on dry land? By no means. Is it the most camera-safe, dry, comfortable, stable and steady, floating platform on the estuary? Far and away. It is also our hope that these photo collections and all of the bird and estuary-scape photographs on this web site will serve to draw attention to and raise awareness of this truly special place - the Morro Bay Estuary. As you look at these pictures, think beyond the images. Marvel at the complexity of the habitat and its ecosystem. Consider that many of the birds pictured here can live twenty-plus years, have complex social lives, and, in many cases, complete truly amazing migrations every year. At Orchid Outriggers, it is our goal to help preserve this unique natural wonder for future generations of our local and migratory birds and our kind as well. Enjoy.
