Caspian Tern
Sterna caspia
Largest of the tern family, with a
wingspan of up to 50 inches. Caspian terns have a larger, longer,
and deeper bill than other terns. It is a brilliant shade of blood
red with a dusky-colored tip. Their behavior is also a bit more
gull-like than other terns - they occasionally will soar, alight on
water, and, although their diet consists mainly of fish, they will
rob other seabirds of food items. They also will eat eggs.
