Brown Pelican
Pelecanus occidentalis
Brown Pelicans have an amazing network
of air sacs running subcutaneously and through their skeletal
structure. Some think these air sacks cushion the birds' impact
during their spectacular fishing dives. Whatever their purpose, they
make the birds so buoyant that they pop back up like a cork, usually
tail first.
