Belted Kingfisher
Ceryle torquat
Usually heard before they are seen,
Kingfishers have a large bill and head totally out of proportion
with the size of the rest of their body. As ungainly as their
proportions might seem, this bird is a very successful hunter. They
don't call it a Kingfisher for nothing. Often seen hovering before
diving head first into the water, they seem to seldom miss their
target.
