Brown Pelican - Pelecanus occidentalis
Note the all white
neck of an adult in non-breeding plumage.
Juvenile birds have a
grey-brown neck and head.
The golden blush on the head is more
intense during breeding season.

Pelagic Cormorant - Phalacrocorrax pelagicus
We see smaller
numbers of the Pelagic Cormorant as compared to the Double-crested
and generally they are seen towards the northern or harbor-mouth
ends of the bay.
Smaller and thinner than the Brants or
Double-crested Cormorants, they are also
uniformly dark - almost
black - in color. Springtime breeding plumage reveals a white
patch
on the birds' flank, just behind the wing.

Pelagic Cormorant - Phalacrocorrax pelagicus
Green-eyed and
iridescent, this bird was perched on the dock moored off Coleman
Beach.
This is a small group of Pelagic Cormorants that can often be
seen in this area.
